Welcome to the web site of the Tennessee
Chapter of the International Association of Assessing Officers
(TIAAO). This organization is all about people and their passion to
contribute to the assessment profession. Tennessee has long been
recognized as having one of the best property tax systems in the
country and our success is largely due to the assessment
professionals who conscientiously perform their duties on a daily
basis throughout the state. The IAAO thru the Tennessee Chapter
helps promote and maintain professional standards and education
programs that are a vital part of property tax administration. This
is our chapter's 25th anniversary year and plans are in
the works to develop and publish a commemorative DVD to recognize
the first 25 years and relive some of our history.
New Direction for 2009-2010 Meetings
In
recent years, the chapter has held two general membership meetings,
one in the spring and another more heavily attended meeting in the
fall. Both have been conducted in Nashville. With the current
economic situation and it's effects on travel budgets as well as
personal finances, a decision has been made to hold only one general
membership meeting per year. Our hope is to have that meeting
attended by a majority of our members and to offer a superior
educational and social experience. Planning is currently
underway for the meeting to be held in August of 2010.
Additionally, other meetings and events are being planned on a
regional basis to offer the membership educational and networking
opportunities in their local areas. Regional program committees
have been established and will be responsible for planning and
conducting these events at the local level. Ideas range from
periodic luncheon meetings to special topic seminars.
Candidates Club Activity
In the
past few years, the candidates club has been inactive. Plans are
underway to get reorganized and offer candidates club programs for
those members seeking to obtain IAAO professional designations. The
candidates club committee has been expanded by designating a
subcommittee for each grand division of the state. A schedule of
candidate’s club activities will be developed in the near future. If
anyone would like to be involved or share ideas on the subject,
please don’t hesitate to call or e-mail the chairman of the
candidates club. Check out the committee appointments web page for
the names of the chairman and committee members.
Expanded Role of the Web Site
Stay
tuned to the web site to keep informed about chapter business, news
and developments. As has been said before “the only constant is
change.” The names, phone numbers and e-mail addresses of executive
board members are listed on the “Board Members” page. Please feel
free to contact the executive board with any questions or ideas for
the chapter. Your input, feedback and participation is needed and
welcomed.
